Hohe Mark Cycle Route

three-day star bike tour in the eastern Niederrhein region

Container

Embark on a fascinating and varied journey through the Hohe Mark Nature Park in the far east of the Niederrhein region and neighboring Münsterland. Passing historic buildings, picturesque villages and lush forests, this beautiful corner of the world will enchant you.

Experience the Üfter Mark with its rare animal species, heathland, old oak trees and pines. From the viewing platform, you can observe deer in the wild. But there are even more highlights waiting for you on the “Hohe Mark RadRoute”: in Erle, you will encounter a special natural monument. The Femeiche is said to be one of the oldest oak trees in Germany, at 1.500 years old. According to legend, Odin, the father of the gods, sat under this oak tree and ruled over his people.

In the Dingden Heath, you can observe meadow birds such as lapwings, curlews, black-tailed godwits, redshanks, and snipes, or rare plant species such as marsh gentian and sundew. Here, the cultural landscape comes to life, from the Middle Ages to the present day, illustrated on information boards in the 2.000-hectare nature reserve.

Those who prefer something a little livelier can watch the hustle and bustle on the Wesel-Datteln Canal or marvel at the Renaissance Raesfeld Castle with its chapel and Renaissance animal gardens.

This varied bike tour leaves nothing to be desired.
